'Mobile swimming training' model to prevent drowning in Anh Son
(Baonghean.vn) - To create a safe and rewarding summer, 21 Youth Union bases in Anh Son district (Nghe An) have implemented a model of teaching children to swim using mobile pools.

These days, Tho Son Commune Youth Union in coordination with Tho Son Secondary School is completing the installation of a mobile swimming pool, preparing to open swimming classes for local children.
Mr. Vi Van Quang - Secretary of Tho Son Commune Youth Union shared: Tho Son Commune is the most remote mountainous commune of Anh Son District, nearly 40 km from the district center. It is located close to Lam River, and the commune has a system of large and small dams scattered throughout. Therefore, the Commune Youth Union Executive Committee pays special attention to drowning prevention for children and adolescents.
In addition to posting warning signs in dangerous areas; informing, propagating, and disseminating knowledge about protection and drowning prevention for children, the Tho Son Commune Youth Union and the secondary school rented a mini swimming pool system to open swimming classes for children.
At Anh Son Town Primary School, the mobile swimming pool model has been put into use by the school for 2 years now. Swimming lessons are conducted after completing the daily classroom curriculum, each practice session is limited to 15 - 20 students so that the instructions are specific and also to control the students while learning to swim.
Mr. Nguyen Tat Truong - Principal of Anh Son Town Primary School added: "To implement the swimming teaching model in schools, in the 2016 - 2017 school year, Anh Son Town Primary School invested in assembling a mini swimming pool system made of waterproof fabric, with four sturdy support edges. The school assigned physical education teachers to directly instruct swimming operations, skills and methods to handle some dangerous situations encountered on rivers and streams."

Anh Son District has many rivers, streams, ponds and lakes, which pose a high risk of drowning. Therefore, entering the summer vacation, Anh Son District Youth Union and the District Department of Education and Training have implemented solutions to prevent drowning for students in the area.
With the design of a portable swimming pool model that is easy to install, compact materials, soft pool walls, easy to move, not fussy about space and safety, and low cost, this year many Youth Unions have installed portable swimming pools to teach swimming to children. This summer, the Youth Unions of Duc Son, Tho Son, Tam Son and Dinh Son communes are teaching swimming to children.
