That decision means both the Navy's new littoral combat ships and destroyers will be equipped with the Naval Strike Missile (SNM).

NSM, completed by Kongsberg after spending more than 10 years overcoming product shortcomings, has become the world's most accurate 5th generation anti-ship missile.

This is not the first time Kongsberg has won a contract from the US Navy. In 1986, the force purchased Kongsberg's Penguin anti-ship missiles to equip SH-60/MH-60 Seahawk helicopters.

NSM is currently the most powerful anti-ship missile in the world, surpassing Russia's Kh-35 Uran-E and the US's Harpoon. One of the outstanding features of NSM is its ability to avoid defense systems in the final phase thanks to its radar, stealth technology and maneuverability. In particular, it is designed to attack heavily defended targets.
