The NA6 rice variety has been added to the main rice variety structure of Nghe An province.
(Baonghean.vn) - The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Science and Technology recently collaborated to organize the "Workshop to evaluate the development model of VT-NA6 rice variety in Nghe An", assessing that the NA6 rice variety from Nghe An is of very high quality and will be the province's main variety in the future.

This year, the Na6 rice variety from Nghe An Agricultural Materials Corporation has been planted in many localities and has achieved very high yields.
Nam Thuong commune (Nam Dan district) is one of eight communes selected by the Nam Dan Agricultural Extension Station to implement a model of linked rice production in the spring crop of 2018, covering an area of 30 hectares, using the NA6 pure rice variety from Nghe An Agricultural Materials Company. Practical evaluation showed that this rice variety has many outstanding advantages, such as: low disease susceptibility, rapid tillering, high intensive cultivation potential, large panicles with many grains; higher milling yield, higher percentage of whole grain rice, especially a higher percentage of white rice compared to control varieties; and an average yield of 73-76.8 quintals/hectare.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Phu, Head of the Agriculture Department of Nam Thuong commune, district: “In the spring of 2018, the commune was assigned by the District Agricultural Extension Station to develop a NA6 rice model with a total area of 30 hectares. The rice was sown from January 18-20, and at this time, it has been in the growing season for 123-130 days. Surveys indicate that the estimated yield this year will reach 72-73 quintals/hectare; in the next cropping season, our commune will introduce this variety into this model more extensively.”
In Dien Chau, Yen Thanh, and Quynh Luu districts, the spring rice crop ripened earlier, and farmers are currently harvesting. In Dien Chau district, Mr. Le The Hieu, Head of the District Agriculture Department, said that the VT-NA6 rice variety is expected to achieve an average yield of 78-80 quintals/hectare per crop, the highest among the pure rice varieties currently grown in the area.
Not only in the lowland districts, the VT-NA6 rice variety has also reached most mountainous districts such as Thanh Chuong, Anh Son, Con Cuong, Nghia Dan, Quy Hop, Quy Chau, Que Phong… Everywhere this spring, this rice variety yielded an average of 73-75 quintals/hectare.
Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Science and Technology jointly organized a workshop on the demonstration model of the VT-NA6 rice variety on large fields in Dien Chau and at the Northern Central Vietnam Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology.
At this workshop, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Quoc Thanh, Acting Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Science and Technology, assessed that the VT-NA6 rice variety is a very promising pure rice variety because of its short growing season, high yield of 70-80 quintals/hectare in the spring crop, 60-70 quintals/hectare in the summer-autumn and early season crops; relatively good resistance to pests and diseases; good rice quality (white rice, protein content 7.26%, amylose content 16.35%, milling yield over 70%), delicious and sticky rice, favored by consumers.
The VT-NA6 rice variety has been included in the "National Rice Product Science and Technology Project of Vietnam," and has the potential to be exported to international markets.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lap, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An province, affirmed: The VT-NA6 rice variety has been tested in many demonstration models in Nghe An over several production seasons with very good results. Certainly, the VT-NA6 rice variety will be one of the main rice varieties in Nghe An, focusing on yield and quality in future production seasons.
