As a result, many businesses, schools, organizations, individuals, etc. have registered to give flags to fishermen every month.
“Up to now, we have given away nearly 10,000 national flags and hundreds of gifts to fishermen. I think the significance of this work is not just limited to mere material statistics, but more importantly, it is to build awareness and responsibility among each citizen in protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland,” said Lieutenant Colonel Ha.

Mr. Truong Dinh Thong. |
In 1992, after leaving the army and returning to his hometown, thanks to the Party and State's policies on economic restructuring of crops and livestock, the policy of allocating land and forests to farmers and policies on hunger eradication and poverty reduction, Mr. Thong decided to do family economics with a farm economic model. To implement the model effectively, the Tho ethnic man researched and learned in many places and in many ways about forest planting models combined with fish farming and poultry farming.
“I boldly accepted 11 hectares of bare hills to plant 10 hectares of eucalyptus and acacia forests and 1 hectare of fruit trees; contracted 3 hectares of dams from the Agricultural Cooperative to raise fish with an initial investment of 20 million VND, of which 10 million was borrowed from the bank, 8 million from friends and relatives, and my family saved 2 million,” said Mr. Thong.
The early days of starting a business were full of difficulties, when he had to worry about paying bank interest, and had to fight against epidemics and natural disasters, causing his initial achievements to "go down the drain". However, with his will to succeed, he did not hesitate to face difficulties to continue building the model.
“In 2005, during a tour in Dong Nai Province, I saw people raising super lean pigs in an industrial way. I asked myself the question, “Why can others do it but I can’t?”. From then on, I boldly asked the Party Committee and the People’s Committee of the commune for permission to build a farm to raise super lean sows and pigs in an industrial way,” Mr. Thong said.
Now, with the model of raising super lean pigs, each year his family sells 1,200 - 1,400 pigs, each weighing an average of 95kg, with an average price of 50,000 VND/kg, with a total income of about 12 billion VND. After deducting expenses, his family earns about 750 million VND in profit. He also takes advantage of manure for raising fish and fertilizing fruit trees, earning 300 million VND per year from raising fish and fruit trees.
Up to now, Mr. Thong's family's annual income from the farm, after deducting expenses, has been more than 1 billion VND in profit, creating jobs for 20 regular workers with a stable salary of 3.5 million VND/month/person and 50 seasonal workers.
He is also the person who directly guides techniques and provides breeding animals for 5 households building VAC farm models and some small-scale livestock households.
Mr. Thong believes that every farmer who tries to work and produce, and has the will to get rich on his homeland, is the clearest demonstration of patriotism.
