For his part, the Chinese President affirmed that Moscow always "fully supports the core interests of other countries... and actively participates in solving international issues and global governance."

Earlier in the day, Mr. Putin met with the host country's Prime Minister Li Keqiang. During the meeting, President Putin emphasized that Russia-China trade and economic relations "have a good pace, and we look forward to cooperation in many new areas."

This visit to China is Mr. Putin's first foreign visit since beginning his fourth presidential term a month ago.

Mr. Yuri Ushakov, foreign affairs advisor to the Russian President, said that Mr. Putin and President Xi Jinping have met 25 times, including 5 times last year. However, despite close political and security relations, bilateral economic relations have declined./.
