Over half a century together through joys and sorrows, happiness and suffering, the love between Mr. Vo Dang Nai (91 years old) and Mrs. Vo Thi Sam (85 years old) in Yen Bai is still full.

Mr. Vo Dang Nai and Mrs. Vo Thi Sam (Yen Bai).

On the occasion of their 65th wedding anniversary, the couple had their special wedding photos taken by their grandson, Vo Tran Nam (born 1993). With a very simple and rustic love, the couple wrote a touching love story together.

No frills, no fancy embellishments, just the grandparents' happy smiles as material for the photo album.

Because of his hearing loss, he couldn't hear everything she said, but every day she whispered and confided in him.

Sharing with VietNamNet, Vo Tran Nam said that his grandparents were originally from Quang Binh. The country was at war, like the youth of that time, they followed the call of the Fatherland and fate brought the couple together in a foreign land.

Meeting each other in a foreign land, they wrote a love story full of emotions.

Two people in the same situation, far from home, are fellow countrymen and comrades. With understanding and harmony, they come under the same roof.

After getting married, the couple decided to return to Yen Bai to live and work, considering it their second homeland.

In times of joy and sorrow, in health and in sickness, they are always together, guiding each other through life's storms.

The sweet fruit of that marriage brought them 4 children, 3 girls and 1 boy. Since childhood, Tran Nam lived with his grandparents. Now, 65 years have passed but the love his grandparents have for each other is still full.

They have been on a journey together for 65 years.

Vo Tran Nam said: “My grandfather had three strokes and his health has been getting worse. Now he cannot walk by himself and has to rely on a wheelchair.

His mind was no longer as clear as before, his voice was slurred, and his hearing was impaired. Sometimes his temper was erratic, she fed him rice but he yelled and threw the bowl of rice. Each time like that, she would comfort and coax him to eat.

He refused to eat, but she patiently sat beside him, holding his hand. Sometimes they sat like that for hours.

Even though she knew he couldn’t hear clearly, she was always by his side every day, whispering to him about their old memories. Witnessing that moment, I shed tears many times because I admired their love.”

"Happiness is not far away, it exists within us, in the simplest and most rustic things."

According to Tran Nam, every time he yelled at her, she kept silent. She told him that silence did not mean anger but understanding. She had been with him all her youth and it was still the same.

“My grandmother used to say, in love, couples have to wait a long time to meet each other, fall in love and decide to be together. Why not keep each other until the end of the road.

"Love is not only love, happiness but also understanding and caring for each other, sharing with each other," the 9x continued emotionally.

Even though she is old and ill, she still hopes to live peacefully with him every day.

Even though he did not understand the world as a child, he could feel the care and concern his grandparents had for each other. When he was healthy, every afternoon his grandfather helped his grandmother cook, ride bicycles together, and hold hands to “travel around the world”.

Once, the ward People's Committee invited them to take photos to celebrate the Vietnamese Elderly Tradition Day in June.

Before leaving, he personally chose clothes for her. If she didn't like any outfit, he told her to change into another one. He only stopped when he was satisfied.

Because their house was near the ward, that day the two of them walked arm in arm. When taking pictures, he kindly adjusted her clothes and hair.

Tran Nam shared that since he became seriously ill, his personality changed and he often yelled at people, but his wife was patient and took care of him attentively.

“In the past, he never raised his voice at her. Whenever he told her to go somewhere, she just frowned and he stayed home. At mealtimes, when he was busy and went out, she waited for her husband to come home to eat together,” Tran Nam recalled.

When he started to get sick, she worriedly stayed by his side, checking on the time for him to take his medicine. She even went into the kitchen to cook porridge for him. Because she understood what kind of porridge he wanted. Even though she was old and had fallen ill, she still hoped to be able to live peacefully with him every day.

Meeting each other is fate, being together is destiny. Why not hold on to each other until the end of the road.

So, love as if you are in their heart and they are in yours. Happiness is not far away but very close because it is in your hands. Smile, sow seeds, water them, your tree of love will grow and spread its shade to the sky soon!

Things may not be perfect the way you want them to be, but live and love every moment to the fullest!
