The joint statement after the talks stated that during the discussion, the two sides also exchanged views on the demilitarization of the Panmunjom truce village on a trial basis.
The general-level military talks were held at the truce village of Panmunjom on the North Korean side. The five-member South Korean delegation was led by Major General Kim Do-gyun, while Lieutenant General An Ik-san led the five-member North Korean delegation.
The talks were originally scheduled to take place in May under the Panmunjom Declaration. However, they were postponed due to North Korea's objection to a joint US-South Korea air exercise. On June 1, the two sides agreed to resume the talks.
