Quynh Luu speeds up the progress of releasing shrimp for the second crop to avoid the rainy and stormy season
(Baonghean.vn) - After harvesting the first shrimp crop with joy in both output and value, shrimp farmers in Quynh Luu district are now actively planting the second crop.
After completing the first shrimp harvest, Mr. Ngo Quoc Duong's family in Hoc Van hamlet, Quynh Bang commune drained all the water, cleaned the bottom of the pond, sprinkled lime powder to kill potential pathogens; took new water and treated the water source...with an area of 5,000 m2He has completed the second crop of shrimp with 450,000 CP and Viet Uc shrimp.
"This crop is often more difficult to care for than the first crop, because of the harsh weather, prolonged heat, fluctuations in temperature and PH, making shrimp susceptible to hepatopancreatic disease and white feces. Therefore, every 4-7 days I add probiotics to clean the water environment and create beneficial bacteria. In addition, I add intestinal enzymes, liver tonics, minerals, and vitamin C to increase the shrimp's resistance," said Mr. Ngo Quoc Duong.

With an area of 7,000 m2Regular shrimp farming, the first crop has allowed Mr. Ho Van Thanh's family in Quynh Luong commune to sell 7 tons of shrimp; after deducting expenses after 3 months of farming, the profit is about 200 million VND. Currently, the rainy season is approaching and implementing the motto "release early, the better", so when the shrimp are harvested, he urgently deploys measuresg process according to the correct procedure to release new batch of shrimp.
Currently, Mr. Thanh has released more than 1 million shrimp seeds, with a density of 200 shrimp/m2. To minimize risks, he releases shrimp in alternating ponds, usually 40-50 days apart. To help shrimp grow well in hot conditions, he feeds them according to the recommended dosage of the aquaculture industry; monitors the color and ability of shrimp to eat food to detect diseases and promptly treat them.

Up to this point, Quynh Luu district has released 20 hectares of shrimp for the second crop. Photo: Hong Dien |
Of the total 460 hectares of white-leg shrimp farming area, Quynh Luu has so far harvested nearly 90% of the first crop and urgently cleaned ponds. Currently, the entire district has stocked more than 20 hectares, mainly in Quynh Bang, Quynh Thanh, An Hoa communes... According to the plan, the entire district will finish stocking shrimp for the second crop on July 15.
The weather for shrimp farming in the second crop is often hot and sunny combined with heavy rain, causing shrimp to often suffer from diseases such as white spots, acute hepatopancreatic necrosis, etc. To ensure shrimp safety, localities recommend that farmers maintain the water level in the pond from 1 - 1.4m; remove leftover food, clean feeding tools to prevent mold; when using biological products and chemicals, strictly follow dosage regulations. At the same time, promote the responsibility of community groups in checking and reminding families to raise awareness and preserve the common farming environment.

Mr. Bui Xuan Truc - Deputy Head of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district said:For this crop, farmers must choose a water schedule and ensure water source conditions; need to choose shrimp with clear origin and quarantine. In the current hot weather, it is necessary to pay attention to the water source in the pond to provide enough depth, the correct amount of food, should not give excess food and apply VietGAP standards in shrimp farming.
Thanks to the good promotion of potential and strengths in the aquaculture industry, each year the shrimp farming output aloneQuynh Luu reached over 35,000 tons, worth 350 billion VND... With careful preparation in this second shrimp crop, hopefully farmers will continue to have a successful crop in both productivity and value.
