(Baonghean.vn) - At this time, households growing Solanum procumbens in Quynh Van commune, Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) are excited because of the good harvest and good prices; on average, 1 sao of Solanum procumbens after harvest gives farmers a profit of 20 million VND.

This is the third year that Mrs. Ho Thi Nga's family in Hamlet 4, Quynh Van Commune has grown Solanum procumbens in their garden. With 6 sao of land growing Solanum procumbens, her family is currently harvesting more than 2 sao; the yield is 3.5 - 4 quintals (dry type)/sao.

"Since the beginning of the year, farmers growing Solanum procumbens have made a profit because the purchase price is high, at 60,000 VND/kg. From now until the end of the year, the family expects to harvest nearly 2 tons of Solanum procumbens (dried). If the price remains stable at 60,000 VND/kg as it is now, the family will make a profit of about 120 million VND, much higher than growing other vegetables," said Ms. Nga.

Currently, Quynh Van commune is the only locality in Quynh Luu district that has successfully grown Solanum procumbens with an area of ​​nearly 1 hectare; there are over 50 households growing it concentrated in hamlet 4.

According to the people, the time from planting to harvesting of Solanum procumbens is 7 months, each year harvest 2-3 times and lasts up to 5 years before digging up the old roots to replant. This plant is easy to grow, investment cost is low, while the profit is high. If the price is around 40,000 - 60,000 VND/kg, the grower will always make a profit... After harvesting, Solanum procumbens will be cut short and dried in the sun, until it turns straw yellow, then packaged.

"Compared to previous years, the purchase price of Solanum procumbens is stable at this time, and traders place orders almost everywhere they harvest. In order to always have products to harvest, many households have planted in different crops on the same area. Due to the increasing demand for Solanum procumbens, sometimes there is not enough time to harvest and sell" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong in Quynh Van commune added.

In addition to growing Solanum procumbens to harvest the stems, many households in the area have grown their own seeds to sell to people for 500 VND/root. If growing for economic development, each household needs to invest about 10,000 - 20,000 roots with a budget of 5 - 10 million VND.

Currently, Solanum procumbens is purchased by traders to distribute to factories for processing and packaging according to technology; or people buy it, dry it, and preserve it for later use.
