Two days earlier (June 10 and 11), Nguyen Minh Kha (18 years old, residing in Hai Tan 3 quarter, Phan Ri Cua town, Tuy Phong) participated in blocking National Highway 1, causing disturbances, vandalism, arson and destroying many properties. Tuy Phong police prosecuted Kha but released him on bail.
After returning home, Kha fled to Ho Chi Minh City. Afterwards, overseas radio stations and many Facebook accounts continuously spread the news that Kha had been beaten to death by the police. Many Facebook accounts also praised Kha as a “hero” and called for and mobilized donations to support him.
Local people were also agitated by this information, so over two days (June 19 and 20), hundreds of people came to the Phan Ri Cua Town Police Headquarters to request clarification. However, when the Phan Ri Cua Town Police asked for the address of the victim's emergency room, no one could provide the exact location for verification.
Although after returning home, Nguyen Minh Kha went to Bac Binh Thuan General Hospital for examination and CT scan, the results showed no injuries, but the information that Kha was seriously injured and had to be taken to Ho Chi Minh City for emergency treatment and had died continuously spread with thousands of shares.
According to initial statements, Kha hid in Ho Chi Minh City at a relative's house and then went to Nguyen Tri Phuong and Pham Ngoc Thach hospitals for examination. The results showed that Nguyen Minh Kha had bronchitis.
