The timely implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project will not allow the EU to pay off investments in other gas projects, so in order to minimize the damage to these projects, it is necessary to delay its implementation or not implement this project, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Sandra Oudkirk told Sputnik.

"Europe's energy security is a matter of time, there are still projects that need to be implemented. When these projects are ready, the gas market in Europe will operate more freely, as in some countries in Northern Europe," - Ms. Oudkirk added.
“The problem we see is that if Nord Stream 2 is built before the connecting pipeline, the alternative flow, the floating oil storage facility and the regasification facility are connected to Southern Europe, this will lead to a withdrawal of investment. These countries will be dependent on Gazprom for the next 30 years,” she said.
Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said that Russia continues to be concerned about the unhealthy situation in the EU over the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
