35 billion VND football betting line during World Cup season in Ha Tinh
During the first week of the World Cup, an online football betting line in Ha Tinh transacted more than 35 billion VND.
On June 27, the Criminal Police Department (Ha Tinh Police) announced that they were temporarily detaining Dang Phuong Nam (24 years old, residing in Tran Phu Ward, Ha Tinh City) and 12 others to investigate the crimes of Gambling and Organizing Gambling.

Authorities allege Nam is the suspected ringleader. In May, Nam contacted a man living in Nghe An and abroad and opened two online soccer betting accounts. The parties agreed to calculate wins and losses every Monday, and pay in cash and by bank transfer.
Having obtained the general agent account, Nam divided the sub-accounts among the lower agents, and the system continued to divide the general agent account into smaller parts for other agents, luring many people to participate in online gambling. Nam stated that the minimum amount of money gambled in the network was 1-5 million VND, and the maximum was 400 million VND.

Police estimated that during the week of the World Cup from June 14 to June 21, the transaction amount of the line was more than 35 billion VND.
Five days ago, hundreds of police officers simultaneously raided betting sites owned by Nam in Nghe An, Ha Tinh city, Can Loc district, Cam Xuyen, Thach Ha, arrested 13 people, seized 250 million VND in cash, a car, 2 computers, 19 cell phones, more than 800 pages of documents and many related exhibits.
