On June 29, the Ministry of Health requested the Hai Phong Department of Health to verify the case of a fetus dying in the womb while waiting for a cesarean section, which occurred at Tam Phuc Maternity Hospital.

Four days earlier, pregnant woman Le Thi Anh Tuyet came to Tam Phuc Maternity Hospital for a pregnancy check-up and to wait for delivery. After the examination, the doctor diagnosed that the fetus was 40 weeks old, had a large fetus, and had a short umbilical cord. The doctor advised Tuyet to have an early cesarean section, but the pregnant woman's family did not agree, saying that they had to wait until the 16th day of the 5th lunar month, which was a good day, to give birth.

On the afternoon of June 26, the pregnant woman Tuyet was taken in for examination and the doctor diagnosed that the fetus had lost its heartbeat. Immediately after that, a cesarean section was performed to remove the fetus. However, the baby boy weighing 4.4 kg died.

According to Dr. Chinh, who directly participated in the surgical team for Ms. Tuyet, at first the mother's family requested a natural birth, but the doctor did not agree because it would be dangerous for both mother and child, so he ordered a cesarean section.During the surgery, the hospital invited the family to witness the dead fetus and the knotted umbilical cord.

The initial cause diagnosed by doctors at Tam Phuc Hospital was that the fetus died due to sudden loss of fetal heart rate, congenital malformations and metabolic disorders.

On the same afternoon, Ms. Pham Thu Xanh, Director of Hai Phong Department of Health, said that Tam Phuc Hospital had reported the incident. To conclude the cause of the fetus's death, the provincial Department of Health is waiting for the results of the death review from the hospital.
