"We will march in Washington DC and across the country,"AFPThe protest in Washington on June 30 will begin at Lafayette Square, near the White House, and will then head toward the Capitol, organizers said on their website.

Beginning in May, in an effort to stem the tens of thousands of immigrants entering the United States each month across the southern border, US President Donald Trump ordered the arrest of adults crossing the border, including asylum seekers.

As a result of Trump’s policy, many children were separated from their parents. Images circulated widely, showing migrant children being held in separate, fenced areas. The move sparked a wave of protests both in the US and around the world.

Last week, Trump signed an order to end the separation of illegal immigrant families, but lawyers say the process will be extremely complicated and lengthy. Official figures show that there are still 2,000 immigrant children separated from their families.

More than 500 women, including a US congressman, were arrested on June 28 for protesting Trump's immigration policies on Capitol Hill. There have been several protest marches across the US, but the demonstration on June 30 is said to be much larger. In Washington, the crowd could reach 50,000 people.

The pro-immigrant group "United We Dream", which includes many politicians and social activists, has called for the dissolution of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), criticizing ICE for its "unfair" and "cruel" treatment of immigrants.
