7 people causing trouble in front of Binh Thuan People's Committee headquarters received sentences

On the morning of July 12, the People's Court of Phan Thiet City (Binh Thuan) held a first-instance trial and sentenced Nguyen Dinh Vu (41 years old) and Tran Thi Ngoc (50 years old) to 24 months in prison forsinDisturbing public order.For the same crime, 4 other defendants received 30 months in prison; Nguyen Minh Haisentenced to 18 months suspended sentence, due tounder 18 years old
This is the first group involved in disturbing public order, resisting law enforcement officers, and destroying property in this province to be brought to trial. The remaining people will be separated and tried later.
TheAccording to the indictment, on the night of June 11, Vu and a group of people gathered in front of the Binh Thuan People's Committee headquarters, shouting slogans against the draft Law on Special Economic Zones. The defendants werethrowing stones, petrol bombs... at police on duty.
When dispersed by the police, Vu brought a 12 kg gas cylinder to the middle of Tran Hung Dao bridge, about 50 meters from the gate of the provincial People's Committee headquarters, and continued shouting.When Vu turned on the gas and was about to light a fire, the police rushed in to stop and arrest him.
In court, the defendants admitted their crimes and expressed remorse for their thoughtless actions.Vu said that while he was drinking that day, a friend showed him a video of people throwing rocks at the provincial People's Committee headquarters. After the drinking session, Vu went down to the boat to get a gas tank, hired a motorbike taxi to take him to join the riot.
Ngoc recounted that she was helping out at a beer house on the banks of the Ca Ty River when she saw people gathering at the provincial People's Committee headquarters, so she followed them to watch. The female defendant was asked by some young men to pour gasoline into beer bottles to make petrol bombs to throw at the police on duty.
