To save fuel in your car, try these methods.
The American news site Motor1 has just published some recommendations to help car owners save fuel as much as possible. The savings are calculated in cents ($0.01) per gallon of fuel (3.78 liters).
Check the fuel cap.A loose fuel cap is a common problem with older cars. Motor1 estimates that about 17% of cars in the US have missing or broken fuel caps, wasting fuel and polluting the environment. The savings from this inspection are approximately 2 cents per gallon.

Drive straight.Driving over potholes can damage tires due to the erratic vibrations. Besides causing faster tire wear, this type of movement also makes the engine work harder, potentially consuming up to 10% more fuel. If the car veers sharply to one side or the steering wheel isn't centered, try to keep the car straight if possible, avoiding constant steering adjustments. Fuel savings are around 28 cents per gallon.
Pay attention to the tires..Motor1, citing several sources, reports that over 25% of cars on the road in the US have tires that are worn beyond acceptable limits. Drivers should check tire pressure regularly, especially when driving in unusually hot conditions. These actions can save approximately 8 cents per gallon.
Use the correct engine oil..The manufacturer recommends using the correct engine oil for your vehicle, ensuring both safety and fuel efficiency. The estimated savings are around 5 cents per gallon.
Regular vehicle maintenance.Fuel savings will be around 11 cents per gallon. If your car is due for maintenance, take it to the garage immediately.

Tidy up the trunk of your car..Reducing vehicle weight is the easiest way to save fuel. Unnecessary items in the trunk should be removed. It's estimated that for every 45 kg increase in weight, fuel consumption increases by 1-2%. Motor1 reports that this method saves approximately 6 cents per gallon.
Turn off the engine when waiting for a long time.If stopping for 30 seconds or more, drivers are advised to turn off the engine to save fuel if the vehicle does not have a stop/start function. Additionally, there's no need to start the engine in advance in the morning. Motor1 argues that this is unnecessary and only wastes fuel.

Slower will save more money.When driving on the highway, instead of going 110 km/h (or 120 km/h), you should only go 100 km/h; this saves about 7% on fuel, according to Motor1's calculations. And that means car owners will save about 20 cents per gallon of gasoline.
