Search for missing fishing couple on Lam River
(Baonghean.vn) - People discovered the couple's motorboat drifting to the bank of Lam River with the engine running but could not find anyone, so they informed the family and the authorities to organize a search.
At 9:00 a.m. today (July 19), Mr. Phan Ba Khanh - Vice Chairman of Vinh Son Commune People's Committee (Anh Son District, Nghe An) said that after 2 days of search and rescue efforts by search forces and relatives, they still have not found the couple Nguyen Van Dong (born in 1952) and Tran Thi Loi (born in 1958), residing in Hamlet 3, Vinh Son Commune) who went missing on Lam River.
According to Mr. Khanh, the area has been experiencing heavy rains for the past few days, and the Lam River has risen, making search and rescue operations difficult. The local government of Anh Son district has mobilized thousands of people and vehicles to search continuously over the past few days.
"We are currently mobilizing forces and relatives, hiring people to stretch nets across Lam River near Do Luong bara to monitor and search," said Mr. Khanh.
Mr. Bui Dang Quan (in hamlet 3, Vinh Son commune) said: Mr. Dong and his wife were originally fishermen, in very difficult circumstances. The couple overcame many floods in history, saved many people in the flood center, took children from the village to school, and people crossed the river to make a living safely. The family, neighbors and rescue forces from the commune to the district helped to search for the two people, but hope was too fragile.
As reported, at around 6am on July 17, Mr. Dong and his wife took their motorboat to Lam River (through Long Son Commune, Anh Son District) to fish. However, at around 8am on the same day, people discovered Mr. Dong and his wife's boat drifted ashore, but they were nowhere to be seen.
At that time, Mr. Dong and his wife's motorboat was still running, and Mr. Dong's cell phone was still on the boat. People found the phone number of Mr. Dong's daughter who got married in Long Son commune to report the news.
To ease the pain of loss and contribute a small part in supporting the search for Mr. Dong and his wife, people in hamlet 3, Vinh Son commune are calling on kind hearts to help Mr. Dong's family.
