Subject Thu - one of 3 subjects being detained at the police station of Hai Chau district, Da Nang.

On July 22, Hai Chau District Police (Da Nang City) were still detaining Le Thi Lua (34 years old, from Thanh Hoa, currently living in Da Nang), Nguyen Nhu Bao Thu (23 years old, residing in Thanh Khe District, Da Nang) and Huynh Tan Nhon (39 years old, residing in Thua Thien Hue Province) to clarify the act of extortion.

According to the investigation, Lụa and Thư (female but claiming to be male) were acquainted with Mr. Lee (unknown background). Mr. Lee informed Lụa's group that Mr. LJJ (55 years old, Korean nationality) was a wanted person.

The group searched for and planned to threaten and blackmail Mr. LJJ when they learned that he was temporarily residing in Hai Chau district, Da Nang.

On the afternoon of July 19, Lụa and his accomplices (including Nhơn) went to Mr. J's house. Talking over the phone with Mr. J's interpreter, Lụa pretended to be a police officer who was arresting a wanted criminal, Mr. J., and asked him to come to the police station to work or pay a bribe to be let off the hook.

Mr. J. was confused and did not know what happened, but still went into the house to take 105 million VND and gave it to Lua's group. This group said it was too little and asked Mr. J. to contribute 10,000 USD (about more than 200 million VND). Mr. J. asked this group to come back to get more money on July 20. On July 20, this group came back to get the money and was caught red-handed by the police.

The incident is being investigated by the authorities.
