On the evening of July 21st, a representative from the Department of Internal Political Security (A83) - Ministry of Public Security announced that after two days of work, the task force of the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Education and Training had initially discovered irregularities in the regulations for the national high school graduation exam in Son La.
According to this source, the Son La Department of Education's examination council did not strictly follow the procedures for grading, preserving, and sealing exam papers. There were problems with the preparation steps for invigilation and grading.
To clarify who committed violations or interfered with this process, the task force is still reviewing the entire procedure, including the stages of guarding exam papers and grading... "The task force had to work through the night on both weekend days, and will certainly have to speed up the process to finish early and announce the results to the public," this person said.
Previously, Son La province caused a stir when it had a higher percentage of students scoring 9-10 in Mathematics and Physics than even the academically renowned provinces of Hanoi, Nam Dinh, and Ho Chi Minh City, while its average scores in these subjects were among the lowest in the country.
The province had 13 candidates scoring 9 or higher in Physics, accounting for 0.97% of the nearly 1,340 candidates who took the exam. Meanwhile, with more than 37 times the number of exam papers (49,680), the percentage of candidates in Ho Chi Minh City achieving this score was only 0.08%, 12 times lower than Son La. In Mathematics, Son La had 30 students scoring 9, accounting for nearly 0.3% of the total number of candidates. This percentage in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Nam Dinh was 0.04, 0.1, and 0.06 respectively.
To verify irregularities in the national high school graduation exam scores in Son La, on July 18, Minister of Education Phung Xuan Nha signed a decision to establish a working group to clarify the matter. The group includes officials from the Department of Quality Management, the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Education, and A83 of the Ministry of Public Security.
