Wanted but still escaped back to hometown to get passport to go abroad
(Baonghean.vn) - On July 28, information from the Criminal Investigation Department (Provincial Police) said that the unit had just handed over Nguyen Canh Tai (born in 1991, residing in Cat Van commune, Thanh Chuong district) to Do Luong district police to continue investigating according to authority.

According to information provided by the police, Nguyen Canh Tai used to live and work in Russia. After returning to Vietnam, Canh Tai was discovered to be involved in drugs and often gathered with friends to buy drugs for use. When Tai and Dang Dinh Tai (born in 1988, living at the same address) went to Do Luong district to buy drugs, they were discovered by Do Luong district police.
While Dang Dinh Tai was arrested, Nguyen Canh Tai escaped. On July 3, 2018, Do Luong District Police issued a wanted notice for Nguyen Canh Tai for “Illegal possession of narcotics” and transferred the case to the Criminal Investigation Department for arrest.
Working with Tai's relatives, the wanted detectives all received information that they did not know where Tai went, what he was doing, and that the subject had not contacted home. In fact, after leaving the locality, Nguyen Canh Tai went to Hanoi to hide in his relatives' house. To avoid detection by the authorities, Tai rarely left the house.
On the morning of July 22, detectives received information that a subject resembling Nguyen Canh Tai appeared in the area around the Immigration Office (Truong Thi Ward, Vinh City). A task force was immediately present there to verify. However, at that time, there were many people coming to make passports and travel documents, so it was difficult to arrest Tai. After reporting to the unit, the task force was ordered to secretly follow Tai, waiting for the opportunity to act.
After leaving the Immigration Office, Nguyen Canh Tai got into a car and drove from Vinh to Hanoi. The wanted officers immediately got in the car and followed him. “From the time he appeared in Vinh City until he got on the bus, the subject always wore a hat that covered his entire face. Meanwhile, the information about the subject that we approached was still quite new, the identification traces were not yet fully grasped, so we had to continue to “wait and see” for the right moment.
The bus reached Nuoc Ngam station, Nguyen Canh Tai got off. After nearly 5 hours of secret observation, accurately identifying the wanted subject, when Tai was about to get on the bus, he was approached by detectives, controlled and successfully arrested," said Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quoc Huy - Search Team, PC52.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Huy, after being escorted to Nghe An, at the headquarters of PC52, Nguyen Canh Tai confessed that through sources from friends, Tai knew he was wanted by the police. In order to escape, Tai decided to return to... reapply for a passport to prepare to go to Russia.
