Vietnam won two gold medals at the International Physics Olympiad
The Vietnamese student delegation participating in the International Physics Olympiad won two gold prizes, two silver prizes and one bronze prize.
The Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training) announced on July 29 that two Vietnamese students won gold medals at the 2018 International Physics Olympiad: Nguyen Ngoc Long (grade 12, Lam Son High School for the Gifted, Thanh Hoa province) and Tran Duc Huy (grade 12, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi).

Two silver medals went to Nguyen Xuan Tan (grade 11, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and Trinh Duy Hieu (grade 11, Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, Bac Giang province).
The last member of the International Physics Olympiad team is Nguyen Van Thanh Loi (grade 12, Quang Trung High School for the Gifted, Binh Phuoc province) who won a bronze medal.
With the above achievements, Vietnam is one of 10 countries winning two or more gold medals and ranked 8th out of 86 countries and territories participating in the 2018 International Physics Olympiad.
The leading countries in terms of achievements at this Olympics are China and India, each with five gold medals; Russia, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore each with four gold medals; the United States with three; Vietnam and Israel each with two gold medals.
The 49th International Physics Olympiad 2018 was held in the Republic of Portugal from July 21 to 29.
In 2017, Vietnam won four gold medals and one silver medal at the International Physics Olympiad, held in Indonesia with 424 contestants from 86 countries and territories participating. This is the highest achievement in the years Vietnam participated in the International Olympiad.
The ranking of the Vietnam National Physics Team in 2017 was 5th after China, Korea, Russia and Singapore.
