How to 'rescue' an emergency when detecting an overheating car engine
In rare cases, even when you are not driving on the highway, your car engine can still overheat. If not handled quickly and promptly, this phenomenon will damage the engine and even lead to a car fire.
Here are some notes for drivers when dealing with a sudden engine overheating situation:
1. Stop the car immediately
If you are driving on a highway or in a place with high traffic density, you need to pay attention to ensure the safety of yourself and others by observing and moving the car into the emergency lane or the roadside. Then, you should turn off the engine and wait for the engine to cool. If the engine is too hot and steam is coming from the hood, you must open the hood to help the car cool down.
Only check the internal components when the engine is completely cool.
If not handled promptly, an overheating car engine can cause dangerous short circuits and fires. |
2. Stop the car but turn the key to On mode
This will keep the cooling system running to cool the engine quickly.
3. Check the cooling system
When the engine is still hot, you should not open the radiator cap or check this system to avoid burns. Pay attention to check the cooling system for damage, coolant leakage out of the engine.
Add coolant or clean water temporarily when necessary to ensure and help the engine not overheat before taking the car to the garage for inspection and repair.
Note, if you cannot stop the car immediately, you should immediately turn off the car's air conditioning system to avoid the engine from working too hard and overheating faster.
At this point, you can also turn on the car's heater and turn the fan blade out towards the window as far as possible. The heater will take some of the heat from the car's engine and convert it into heating heat, which can help dissipate some of the heat when the engine is too hot.
4. Regularly pay attention if the car has signs of unusual heat
When the engine starts to show signs of overheating, you should slow down to a steady speed and regularly check the temperature gauge on the dashboard to see the temperature level. If the temperature continues to rise, you should stop the car and proceed as instructed above.
