The shot that destroyed the target of Vietnam's Gepard ship
Able to fire 10,000 rounds per minute, the Palma system on the new Gepard ship pair of the Vietnam Navy has destroyed air targets very quickly.
This is the result of a live-fire exercise of the new pair of frigates Gepard 015 Tran Hung Dao and 016 Quang Trung belonging to Brigade 162 (Naval Region 4).
During the exercise, in addition to anti-air firing exercises, Vietnam's strongest pair of warships also successfully destroyed targets in anti-ship firing exercises.

Information about the exercise posted by QPVN Channel said that during the exercise, Gepard ships fired AK-176M/MA cannons at targets at sea, using the Palma system to destroy flying targets. With extremely fast firing speed, with just the first round of shots, the target was completely destroyed.
It is known that the Palma anti-aircraft gun-missile system on the Vietnamese Gepard ship is designed to defend against enemy air attacks. It can destroy anti-ship missiles, aircraft as well as small targets on the water and on land.
The Palma system's combat module, designated 3R-99E, operates fully automatically, with each module carrying eight Sosna-R missiles. The Sosna-R missiles are pre-installed in the launcher along with two 30mm AO-18KD six-barrel automatic cannons.
The AO-18KD system can fire 10,000 rounds in 1 minute or 180 rounds/second, enough to shoot down missiles approaching the warship. This design is similar to the Kashtan system - the previous version of Palma, however the guns and missiles receive commands from the 3V-89 multi-channel electro-optical fire control system.
The 3V-89 electro-optical fire control system includes a television and thermal imaging channel, a rangefinder and a laser control channel. Each 3R-99E combat module weighs 6,900 kg. A complete Palma air defense system consists of 4 combat modules.
Palma's specifications: anti-ship missiles, cruise missiles at distances up to 10 km and at altitudes up to 5 km, rapid-fire guns to destroy targets at distances up to 4 km and altitudes up to 3 km. This system is automatically controlled, with a combat response time of only 3 - 5 seconds.
According to SIPRI statistics, Vietnam has ordered up to 200 9M311 Sosna-R missiles for the Palma air defense missile/gun system equipped on Gepard 3.9 ships.
