Unexpectedly giving up the VFF chairmanship
Director of My Dinh National Sports Complex - Mr. Can Van Nghia has just submitted an application not to run for the position of VFF president for the 8th term and currently there is only one candidate left: Nguyen Cong Khe.
In the third round of nominations for key positions in the new VFF term, members introduced Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien and Deputy Minister Le Khanh Hai to the chairmanship. However, Mr. Hai thanked the members for their recommendations and asked not to run for the position because he was too busy. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien has not yet commented, but some opinions say that since he is currently a Minister, he does not have much time to take care of everything.
Meanwhile, Mr. Can Van Nghia once made it clear that if the leader of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ran for the position of VFF president, he would withdraw because "no one ever competes for a position with a superior".

In his resignation letter, Mr. Nghia wrote: “Recently, I was introduced by members to run for the position of President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) for the 8th term of 2018-2022. Because the VFF during the 7th term and the recent past has had too many shortcomings and inadequacies.
Implementing the Prime Minister's direction, I realize that the 8th VFF Congress for the 2018-2022 term must have a leader of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism take on the position of President of the 8th VFF for the 2018-2022 term.
Therefore, I officially withdraw my candidacy for the VFF President for the 8th term 2018-2022 and will run for the position of Vice President in charge of finance and fundraising for the 8th term 2018-2022.

Thus, the VFF President position for the 8th term now only has Mr. Nguyen Cong Khe - former Vice President of VPF while the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has not yet commented on introducing or agreeing to its candidate.
Previously, former Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Sports Le Quy Phuong and Vice President of VFF Tran Quoc Tuan withdrew their candidacy for the position of VFF President for various reasons. The VFF Congress for the 8th term, after nearly 5 months of delay, has not yet determined the opening date.
