“Syria strongly condemns the plot to assassinate Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in order to cause insecurity and instability in the country,” the source said.
Syria also expressed solidarity with the people and leadership of its ally Venezuela, calling for respect for sovereignty and warning against interference in its internal affairs. “Syria is certain that the Venezuelan government can overcome its internal problems within the framework of state institutions and the Constitution,” the source said.
Like Syria, Moscow has also condemned the assassination attempt, stressing that these are steps aimed at destabilizing the situation in Venezuela. A statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry on August 5 said: “We strongly condemn the attempted assassination of the President of Venezuela on August 4, which left seven people injured,” and stressed that “the use of terrorist methods as a tool of political struggle is absolutely unacceptable.”
“It is clear that these steps are designed to destabilize the situation in the country after the recent meeting of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, which outlined priority steps for restoring the country’s economy. We believe that political disagreements should be resolved only through peaceful and democratic means,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry also expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan people and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack.
Earlier, Venezuelan Information Minister Jorge Rodriguez said the assassination attempt on Mr. Maduro was carried out using several drones loaded with explosives. They exploded while the head of state was speaking at the 81st anniversary of the National Guard on August 4. Seven law enforcement officials were injured. President Maduro and other senior government officials were not injured in the explosion, Mr. Rodriguez said.
According to TASS, the Venezuelan President said that some of the people involved in the plot to assassinate him have been arrested and accused the Colombian leader of being behind the plot. Mr. Maduro also affirmed that some of the people who planned to assassinate him live in the United States.
