Chinese Type-96B tank crews beat three opponents in the semi-finals of the international tank race in Russia.

The Tank Biathlon competition within the framework of the Army-2018 international military tournament went through the first day of the semi-finals yesterday with the participation of 4 teams including China, Azerbaijan, Iran and Kyrgyzstan, according toRT.

These are the 4 best 12 teams that qualified for Tank Biathlon 2018 to continue competing with each other in the semi-finals taking place at the Alabino training ground, near Moscow.

In this round, teams must control their tanks to complete 4 laps, overcome obstacles and shoot at simulated enemy tanks, helicopters and infantry targets with main guns and machine guns, of which the shooting on the move is considered the most difficult.

The Chinese team continued to use the domestically produced Type-96B tank, while the other three teams used T-72 tanks provided by the host country, Russia. The Chinese crews showed good shooting skills, destroying more targets on the move than the other opponents.

The Chinese team’s Type-96B tank, numbered 607, suffered an engine failure during the sprint, forcing the team to call in a reserve tank. Despite this, the Chinese team still finished the race with the best results to qualify for the finals. Azerbaijan and Iran finished second and third, while Kyrgyzstan withdrew midway through the race.

"The Chinese crews this year are well trained and performed better than last year," said Roman Binyukov, a referee at the Tank Biathlon.

The semi-finals of the 2018 Tank Biathlon will take place over three days. Today, the Russian team will compete with teams from Mongolia, Armenia and Venezuela. The finals will take place on August 11.
