Runner-up Thuy Van reveals for the first time about the darkest time of her life

Not afraid to act in hot scenes if the project is suitable

- In reality, beauties who move into other fields often do not do well. Aren't you afraid of being criticized when you move into cinema?

I think it's great to be praised, but I'm okay with being criticized. You can't expect the audience to praise you when your acting is bad.

But I believe that no matter what I do, as long as I put all my heart into it, I will accept the result no matter what.

Some people get criticized for not taking it as their main job. The first projects may get criticized but the more you do, the better you become.

Personally, I have played many different roles and have received many mixed opinions. Some people said my face is not suitable for being a model, I am not tall enough to be a beauty queen...

But a year after being crowned Miss International Runner-up, I was proud to be recognized as MC Thuy Van.

What you do is not as important as what you say. I believe that if you try hard and are determined, you will succeed.

- If you get an invitation to act in a movie that requires hot scenes, what will you do when you have to maintain the image of an International Runner-up?

It all depends on the audience's reaction to my first film. Honestly, I'm still very nervous, like sitting on a hot coal. I hope my first film gets a good response so I can have more motivation.

If the next film is a quality project, the passion of the whole crew and suitable for me, then the hot scene is just a catalyst for the film. So why not?

- Many beauty queens and runners-up choose VTV to study and develop their MC career while you are already an MC recognized by the audience. Do you intend to try your hand at an environment like VTV?

Actually, I received an invitation to cooperate with VTV when I first started my MC career. I became an MC with an open spirit towards all stations.

I myself have hosted some programs broadcast on VTV, but I have not thought about sticking with just one station.

- Recently, Thuy Van's participation in game shows has revealed her personality, but some audiences say she's acting or overreacting. How do you respond?

No matter who you are, what you do has different opinions. Artists need to understand this, so I personally am not sad. That is who I really am.

So in the face of negative comments, I thank them but still keep what belongs to my personality and character and try to improve myself every day. I keep in mind: if I do something wrong today, I must not make the same mistake tomorrow. Every day that passes, I must be a better version of myself.

I used to see life as gray

- It's a fact that because you rarely attend events and appear in newspapers, people often say you're "more obscure" and "bland" than other beauties. What do you say?

I think this view is a bit one-sided. An artist's career does not depend on how many events you appear at, what you wear or how much noise you make in the press.

I have never compared myself to anyone. At 25, looking back at the titles I have, the products I have made and the programs I am hosting, I have the right to be proud of myself.

- Why do you still maintain your daily life in showbiz even when there are scandals?

Everyone wants different things in life. I still need a little bit of scandal to keep my name but I can’t chase scandal to be in the newspaper every day or to be in someone’s story all the time.

I must say that I am extremely satisfied with my current life. I understand my value when producers will think of me first if they need a bilingual MC or a beauty coming out of the Miss International pageant.

So I would not trade that value to chase after gossip for a "hotter" name.

- Beautiful, satisfied with work and yourself. It seems you are a very lucky girl?

Not really. I went to America for a month. That was the first time I saw grey around me and I thought if it was going to continue like this, I might as well stop living there.

So the trip to the US was a spur-of-the-moment decision, although I was a bit worried about how I would live and what I would do there. But I ended up going to places I had never been before, meeting many new friends and having wonderful experiences.

Although I was born and raised in Vietnam, my living environment is somewhat mixed with American culture. Since I was a child, I have traveled to many countries around the world. I have even set foot in America, but I have never been to the cradle of American culture in general and cinema in particular, Hollywood.

I traveled but still learned continuously. Looking back now, I have never regretted that month. When I returned to Vietnam, all my friends said they saw a very different Thuy Van.

Women should only put on makeup, not fight jealousy!

- Recently, the event of your ex-boyfriend getting married has caught you up in public opinion. Why haven't you spoken up?

People think I'm "caught up" but it's just a story in the newspaper or on social media. My life is going on as usual, so why should I speak up?

Any action or statement will only cause more embarrassment for the people involved. It may even affect the future. So if there is nothing to it, I have no obligation to speak up.

- Observing your daily life on Facebook, I feel that you have a new love?

In the past, I lived a rather private life, I only kept my personal matters to myself. But since becoming a public figure, my fans often "blame" me for being so secretive, not letting people know about my life. From such cute requests, I feel I have a responsibility to make them happy.

I'm gradually revealing more of my life. You'll see more moments when I'm happy, when I'm happy or when I receive gifts... which is very normal. I'll hold off on the question "do you have a new love yet?", but I can say I'm about to stop being single. (laughs out loud)

- It seems like female artists are tending to fall in love and marry Western boyfriends. What about you?

I admire people who marry Western men because surely their mixed-race children will be beautiful. But for me, I think whether they are Western or Vietnamese is not as important as whether the two people are compatible or not. After all, any relationship is based on human emotions.

People often think my taste is "Western" but in fact it is not. I have a lot of foreign friends but I am a bit shy about romantic relationships. I have never dated or fallen in love with foreign friends.

You might laugh, but when I'm in love, I tend to think very far ahead. For example, how to fall in love, get married, have children, where to live... I love my parents very much, family is always my top priority, so at least I want to choose a son-in-law who can talk to them.

- Thuy Van's opinion on jealousy, adultery and jealousy?

Whether male or female, child, adult or even old, everyone knows jealousy. Jealousy is the spice of love, only when there is love can there be jealousy. If you love but don't know jealousy, then why love? Just be friends.

But depending on the personality, cultural level and level of ownership of each person, jealousy is also very different. Some people are jealous, jealous to the point of shaking the sky and earth, but there are also people who are jealous in a subtle way so that they and the other person can understand each other better.

I also know jealousy but only moderately. If I am jealous, I will let the other person know. Sometimes, I am jealous to let people know that I care about them.

Regarding adultery, I divide it into mental adultery and physical adultery, but they are both the same. You think about someone else just because you haven't had the chance to have a physical affair with them. So the level of "crime" is the same for both types.

Cheating is cheating, there is no reason. A cheating lover shows that your position is no longer important to them, there is no use being jealous. If my boyfriend cheated, I would say "bye" and end it.

Let me answer the third part: I never fight with a jealous woman. Ask yourself why, besides making yourself look bad? Women should only put on makeup, not fight with a jealous woman.
