- For primary school children, parents should try to buy books with easy-to-understand content. It is best to read the introduction and table of contents carefully when buying to get a basic understanding of the book's content.

- You should choose to buy books with clear origins, prioritize books from long-standing, reputable publishers. These books are compiled by experts who are suitable for the current educational program.

- The most important thing is to choose books that are suitable for your child's learning ability, guide your child on how to use them to bring out the best of each book, and avoid letting your child depend on books, leading to lack of self-awareness and laziness in thinking.

- Parents should not buy too many books because they can easily duplicate them. Because in the market, in addition to books from reputable publishers, there are books from countless unknown publishers. The titles of the books seem different but the content is copied and not much different. Some reference books even have errors in content. You should only choose a few important books and buy them in sets by the same author, which will be easier to absorb.

- In case parents do not know which book to choose, they should ask the homeroom teacher or subject teacher for advice.

How to use reference books effectively

- Spend time teaching your child how to reference books, rather than buying books and letting them read them themselves. Letting your child study on their own with reference books can easily be counterproductive.

- Reference books are very diverse, some only give hints, some give detailed explanations, and some combine both. Whether they are suggestion books or solution books, each type has its own value. Parents have the role of supervising and guiding their children in which cases they should use hints and in which cases they should read solutions.

For example: Before letting your child read a sample essay, you should let him/her read the suggested essay and do the essay himself/herself; then read the sample essay to fill in missing ideas and learn how to express and use sentences and words.

- In Literature, if you rely too much on sample essay books, read them by heart and apply them mechanically to writing exercises, it is very dangerous.

Parents should only buy books that suggest how to do the exercises, not books that show sample essays, because it makes students imitate easily, which destroys creative thinking and gradually loses emotion. Students should only read sample essays to learn from, but absolutely do not encourage them to use them for their own essays.

- In Math, if your child is good at studying, you should buy books with pre-solved problems from textbooks or advanced math for your child to read and learn by himself. Then ask your child to present them again. The most important thing is to understand, not memorize.

If the student is average or weak, he/she needs someone to explain and tutor him/her. Books that present many ways to solve a problem are only suitable for good students.
