(Baonghean.vn) - In a poor village of the Khmu people (Ky Son - Nghe An), a flood took the lives of two people in one day. The village was left desolate after the water receded.

During the flood days, the house located on the hillside of Luu Thang village (Chieu Luu commune - Ky Son) still echoed with sad cries. Normally, when someone dies, the villagers gather in large numbers to offer condolences, but today they had to put aside their work to focus on searching for the body of Ms. Moong Thi Tuyet, one of the two victims swept away by the flood at noon on August 17.

Next to the coffin made roughly from a few planks, Ms. Moong Thi Dan, mother of Cut Van Thon (11 years old), cried when her child was lost in the flood. Mr. Cut Van Hoi, father of Thon, had red eyes and could not speak. The pain that came to his family happened in a split second, something he could not have expected.

He recounted that: That day, because his wife and he were busy, he asked his uncle Moong Van Loi and his wife to pick up their 7th grade son, who was studying at Chieu Luu Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities, to go home. But unexpectedly, while preparing a meal for his son to come home to eat, everyone rushed to report that his son and 4 others were swept away by the flood.

His family had 5 children and was one of the poor households in the village. Cut Van Thon was the youngest child and according to him, he was also the child that his parents loved and wanted to send to school because he was the most studious among his siblings. However, the flood took Thon away in an instant.

Down the street was a stilt house nestled in silence. Inside was only Moong Van Cuong, who was sitting on his grandmother’s lap, trembling with fear when we arrived. “He was both scared and missed his mother,” Cuong’s grandmother said tearfully.

For more than a day, Cuong and his father and mother were swept away by the flood. Fortunately, Cuong was rescued in time by his father, Moong Van Loi. Moong Van Loi has not eaten or slept for several days because of his anxiety and longing for his wife.

After bringing Moong Thi Tuyet's body back, the people of Luu Thang village went from house to house to hold the funeral for the unfortunate person. The sound of mournful crying echoed throughout the poor village.

Mr. Moong Hai Xoai - Head of Luu Thang village said: The village has 128 households with 668 people, of which poor households account for a large proportion (nearly 70%). The Khmu people in Luu Thang all year round only know how to grow rice on the fields, raise a few buffaloes and cows, but do not do anything else to increase their income. After the flood, the village's situation became even more difficult...
