Preparing to organize the Program for the Poor in 2018

In addition to focusing on communicating about the Month for the Poor, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue suggested that agencies and organizations commend and honor typical examples and communities that have escaped poverty, and honor businesses and individuals who have contributed to supporting the poor.

On August 21, in Hanoi, the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front worked with the Government on the results of the implementation of the "For the Poor" Fund, the social security program and preparations for the live TV program "Joining hands for the poor" in 2018. Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue, Head of the Steering Committee for National Target Programs and Mr. Tran Thanh Man - Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front chaired the meeting.

Also attending were Vice President - General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Hau A Lenh; Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung; Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Truong Thi Ngoc Anh and representatives of leaders of relevant ministries, departments and branches.

Reporting on the results of the live TV program "Joining hands for the poor" in 2017, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Truong Thi Ngoc Anh said that at the program, 104 businesses, units and individuals supported the "For the poor" Fund and the social security program with an amount of nearly 280 billion VND.

As of July 31, 2018, 85/104 units, organizations and individuals have transferred money to support the poor and from text messages via the national humanitarian electronic information portal 1,400 with an amount of over 41.4 billion VND.

The total amount of money that organizations and individuals registered to support the social security program was over 227 billion VND for medical examination and treatment, building houses for the poor, building essential works, bridges, roads, schools... for the poor community.

Also in the first 6 months of 2018, the "For the Poor" Fund at 4 levels received over 529 billion VND. Agencies and businesses directly supported social security programs in localities with over 1,647 billion VND.

From the "For the Poor" Fund, the Central Government has supported over 13 billion VND to visit and give gifts on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2018 and support the construction of solidarity houses, families in difficult circumstances, support for long-term hospitalization, and support students to go to school.

In addition, localities have supported the construction and repair of 17,962 solidarity houses for poor households; supported the construction of 683 civil works; helped and supported more than 114,000 poor households to have production conditions; supported over 2 million poor households to receive medical examination and treatment and 100,695 students in difficult circumstances.

Vice President Truong Thi Ngoc Anh also said that after reaching an agreement with the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam Television, and the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, a plan was issued to coordinate the organization of the live program "The whole country joins hands for the poor" in 2018.

The program aims to mobilize all classes of people, businesses, entrepreneurs, agencies, units, philanthropists, overseas Vietnamese, and international organizations to continue to support and help the poor, achieving the goal of ensuring social security and sustainable development.

Resources mobilized through the priority support program for poor households, poor communities in border areas, and provinces affected by natural disasters, storms, floods, severe cold, and drought in 2017-2018.

At the meeting, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Tran Thanh Man affirmed that in recent times, the activities of joining hands for the poor have received the attention and support of the whole society, corporations and general companies, thereby contributing practically to the implementation of the national target program on sustainable poverty reduction, responding to the emulation movement "The whole country joins hands for the poor - leaving no one behind" launched by the Prime Minister.

According to Mr. Tran Thanh Man, currently the rate of poor households in remote, border and island areas is still high, so it is necessary to continue implementing the program as an annual activity to contribute to raising awareness of all levels, sectors and people, thereby creating a spread and mobilizing many resources to support the poor to escape poverty sustainably.

Chairman Tran Thanh Man suggested that the organization of the program should ensure practicality and effectiveness. In 2018, activities to care for the poor should have a focus and key points with specific programs such as giving warm clothes to the poor, heart surgery, kidney dialysis for poor patients...

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue highly appreciated the positive results of the 2017 “Joining hands for the poor” program, thereby creating a strong, highly humane impression, promoting the spirit of mutual love and demonstrating the solidarity and cooperation of the whole community in implementing the national target program on sustainable poverty reduction.

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue requested relevant ministries and branches to coordinate with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to make careful preparations and successfully organize the live television program "The whole country joins hands for the poor" on October 17 so that this becomes an annual, practical event with strong influence, mobilizing the whole society to join hands to support the poor.

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue noted that, in addition to promoting communication about the peak month for the poor, with the highlight being the live TV program "The whole country joins hands for the poor", in 2018 it is necessary to organize a conference to commend and honor typical examples, communities that have escaped poverty, honor businesses and individuals who have contributed to supporting the poor; organize a press award ceremony for sustainable poverty reduction work and launch text messages to support the poor through the National Humanitarian Information Portal 1,400.
