(Baonghean.vn) - Although the first day of school has passed, many students in the province still do not have enough textbooks to prepare for the new school year. This situation may last longer because the suppliers are not yet proactive in their book sources.

Today, her daughter has entered the first week of first grade, but Ms. Tran Thi Hong Hai (Ha Huy Tap ward) still has not bought enough books for her child.

Sharing about this, she said: Since the beginning of August, I have been buying books for my child and basically have enough. However, I have gone back and forth many times to buy Math and Vietnamese books but still have not been able to buy them. I have also gone to many bookstores in the city but everywhere they shook their heads.

At the bookstore of the Joint Stock Company of Books and School Equipment, on the afternoon of August 22, there were still many parents coming to buy books for their children. However, it was difficult to buy a full set of books as required.

Ms. Le Thi Nga, whose child is in first grade at Truong Thi Primary School, said: "This morning, the homeroom teacher had a list of textbooks for parents to buy. But now I don't know where to buy enough because I don't have almost any books. Meanwhile, the children have already started studying this week."

According to Ms. Hoai - an employee at the store: For the past week, the number of customers coming to buy textbooks at the store has increased dramatically. However, currently, not only the first grade levels but also the remaining levels do not have enough sets. For example, with the first grade books, the store only has some advanced books and reference books left. The remaining books such as Fine Arts, Math, Vietnamese, Social Sciences, Ethics... are all sold out.

The worrying thing is that although the demand from parents is very high and the time is quite urgent, the sales staff themselves are not sure when the books will be fully available. In the districts, this situation is also not optimistic because the supply of books is very small and almost every book is sold out immediately.

In fact, the shortage of books like this year is quite unusual and greatly affects students' learning. Regarding this, a representative of the School Equipment and Books Joint Stock Company said: The shortage of books has been going on for more than a month now and the most common shortage is in the first levels of education such as grade 6, grade 10 and grade 1.

The main reason is that this year, the number of first graders in the area has increased dramatically, so the demand for textbooks for this level of education has increased. In addition, these are the levels of education that are expected to change textbooks next school year, so the publishers have also printed them sparingly. Therefore, the supply is slow and cannot meet the needs of buyers.

Faced with this reality, the unit has also requested the publisher to supply books to the Nghe An market soon, but the company's leaders have also affirmed that they cannot proactively source the supply. The number of books coming in is currently quite small and that really makes it difficult for buyers because they have to go back and forth many times.

While textbooks are in short supply, pirated textbooks have also entered the market, most notably English and Fine Arts textbooks. The province’s interdisciplinary inspection team has also conducted inspections and plans to impose strict penalties on any units that deliberately violate the regulations.
