Asiad 2018: Rowing brings the first Gold Medal to Vietnam
Luong Thi Thao, Ho Thi Ly, Ta Thanh Huyen and Pham Thi Thao all cried tears of happiness after crossing the finish line at noon on August 23.
Right from the start, the Vietnamese girls used all their strength to jump forward. They finished more than three seconds ahead of the Iranian runner-up's boat. "We just fought to the best of our ability, without any strategy. We didn't pay attention to anything else," Thanh Huyen toldVnExpress.
After finishing, the four girls all burst into tears, cheered by their teammates on the riverbank. The loud cries moved everyone nearby. Some foreign reporters also came to share the joy with the team. Many other members of the Vietnamese rowing team also held their heads and cried, bursting into joy.
The rowing team continued to cry when they received their gold medal, but they were tears of happiness. This was the first time in history that Vietnamese rowing had won an Asian Games. In this category at the 2014 Asian Games, Vietnam only had a silver medal.
