Revealed lineup for Syria match

Unlike previous training sessions, the players did not practice any familiar specialized exercises on the afternoon of August 25. There was no one-touch triangle pass coordination, no "2 vs 7" ghost kicking, no group play 4-4, 5-5, 7-7 or 8-8.

After a light warm-up at the beginning of the training session, Mr. Park Hang Seo then had the group of 10 players (goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung practice separately) stand in a circle and... play with the ball. Every now and then, Mr. Park made the players laugh heartily with his funny jokes.

The Korean coach's goal was not to practice his skills but to help the players relax and regain their sense of comfort after they appeared somewhat tense and down in the match against Bahrain. Near the end of the training session, some players practiced taking 11m kicks before Quang Hai practiced his direct free kicks from close range.

Along with goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung, these 10 players are expected to start against Syria. They are three central defenders Dinh Trong, Duy Manh, Tien Dung, two wing-backs Van Thanh, Van Hau, two central midfielders Duc Huy, Quang Hai and the attacking trio Van Quyet, Van Duc, Anh Duc.

These 10 players were chosen by Mr. Park to... relax mentally during most of the afternoon training session on August 25. That is a sign that Van Toan, Cong Phuong, Xuan Truong... will all be on the bench in the match against Syria on August 27.

Iranian athlete breaks longest standing world record in weightlifting

Sohrab Moradi successfully snatched 189kg at the 2018 Asian Games, winning a gold medal and breaking a 19-year-old world record.

  • The old record in the men's over 94kg snatch category belonged to Greek athlete Akakios Kakiasvilis, with a lift of 188kg performed in 1999. This was the longest-standing weightlifting record in the world, before being broken by Sohrab Moradi at the Asian Games yesterday, August 26.

The 29-year-old weightlifter successfully lifted 189kg, 1kg more than the old record. Moradi then successfully lifted 221kg, winning the gold medal and breaking the Asian Games record for total lift, with 410kg.

Sohrab Moradi now holds all the world records in the heavyweight category. Previously, the Iranian athlete held the records for the clean and jerk (233kg) and the total (417kg). He tried to lift 234kg in the clean and jerk event at this year's Asian Games, but failed.

This year's Asian Games is Moradi's last chance to break the 19-year-old snatch record. After the Asian Games, the International Weightlifting Federation will change the weight limit when dividing each weight class.
