Modric won the 2017-2018 European Player of the Year award
The Croatian midfielder beat Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah to receive the prestigious UEFA award for the first time.
Luka Modric has had a successful season, helping Real Madrid win the Champions League for the third year in a row. Last summer, he captained Croatia to the World Cup final and was named the tournament's best player.

Besides Modric's player of the season title,Real dominate individual categories, includingBest striker, midfielder, defender and goalkeeper last season.
Ronaldo was named the best striker in the 2017/18 Champions League, beating Salah and Lionel Messi to the award after finishing as top scorer for the sixth consecutive season. The Portuguese forward has won the UEFA Best Player award three times in the last four years, but this year he finished second behind Modric.
Modric also won the award for best midfielder in the Champions League last season. He surpassed teammate Toni Kroos, and Man City star Kevin De Bruyne.

The title of Best Defender of the 2017-2018 Champions League belongs to Sergio Ramos. The captain of Real was an important factor in helping his team defend the European championship. He surpassed his two teammates Raphael Varane and Marcelo in this category.
Keylor Navas won the Best Goalkeeper award, ahead of two candidates Alisson Becker and Gianluigi Buffon.
The 2017-2018 Women's Player of the Year award went to Pernille Harder, a member of VfL Wolfsburg and the Danish national team. David Beckham was awarded an honorary award for his contributions in and out of football.
