(Baonghean.vn) - Mr. Kha Van Ot, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district, affirmed that there is no truth to the false rumors that the Ban Ve hydroelectric dam has collapsed, causing panic among the people.

Mr. Kha Van Ot stated that he and the leaders of Tuong Duong district are currently at the Ban Ve Hydropower Dam. Currently, the water level flowing into the hydropower plant is at a record high, therefore the dam is releasing floodwaters at a rate of 4300 m3/s, the highest in history.

Mr. Ót asserted that the information about the Bản Vẽ dam breaking was false rumor circulating on social media, causing panic among the people.

The record-breaking flood release is causing severe flooding downstream of the Ban Ve hydroelectric dam. The Ban Ve bridge (in Yen Na commune) has collapsed and been swept away. Fortunately, there were no casualties. The Ban Ve bridge, made of concrete, was the only road connecting Ban Ve with the surrounding villages. It was built more than 10 years ago.

Meanwhile, Ms. Vi Thi Huynh, head of Ve village, said that the incident has completely isolated the entire village. "Nearly 20 houses have been swept away," Ms. Huynh said, adding that the incident caused many people in the downstream area to think the hydroelectric dam had broken, leading to great panic.

"They keep calling me asking if the dam has broken. Currently, the water level is very high, and many houses are flooded. The air up here is very dry. We hope that the information will be widely disseminated that the dam has not broken so that people downstream can feel reassured," Ms. Huynh told a reporter from Nghe An Newspaper over the phone.
