On August 31, Pakistan closed its Consulate General in Jalalabad city in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province.

According to the Pakistani Embassy in Afghanistan, the decision was made to protest the interference of Nangarhar Province Governor Hayatullah Hayat in the activities of the Consulate General.

The closure will remain in place until Pakistan is satisfied with security arrangements.

The Pakistani Embassy said in a statement that it regretted the excessive interference by Governor Hayat, which violated the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.

The Pakistani Embassy also requested the Afghan Foreign Ministry to stop Governor Hayat from interfering in the Consulate General's activities and restore security to the facility.

Previously, on August 30, the Governor of Nangarhar province went to the Pakistani Consulate General with the intention of intervening in the visa application process of Afghan citizens./.
