On Tuesday, the White House once again threatened Syrian President Bashar Assad with military force in case of chemical weapons use. The US placed the responsibility for this action on the Syrian government.

"We want to make clear that our firm position remains the same: If President Bashar Assad decides to use chemical weapons again, the United States and our allies will respond quickly and appropriately," said US presidential spokeswoman Sarah Sanders.

Ms Sanders said the US was closely monitoring the situation in Syria's Idlib province, "where millions of innocent civilians are under immediate threat of attack".

"President Donald Trump warned that this attack would be a reckless escalation of a tragic conflict and would put the lives of hundreds of thousands of people at risk," she noted.

Currently, Idlib province is almost not under the control of Syrian government forces. According to Moscow and Damascus, in addition to armed opposition fighters, there are also terrorists from a number of groups that periodically attack the positions of the Syrian army.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation stated that no one wants active military operations in Idlib, as this will lead to massive human losses.
