Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford combined to open the scoring early, but England still suffered a 1-2 defeat to Spain in their opening match of the Nations League on the morning of September 9.

The match between England and Spain in the Nations League started with the awarding of the 2018 World Cup Golden Boot to Harry Kane. The English striker scored 6 goals in Russia but was not really convincing as 3 of them were from the penalty spot, the first 5 goals came in 2 matches against weak opponents such as Panama and Tunisia.

In this match, coach Gareth Southgate continued to use the 3-5-2 formation. In attack, Marcus Rashford replaced Raheem Sterling to pair with Harry Kane. On the left wing, Ashley Young did not appear, instead, Luke Shaw - a young star who is in good form for Man Utd.

England played confidently and opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Luke Shaw made a pass that tore through the Spanish defense for Marcus Rashford to run in and delicately finish past his Old Trafford teammate, David De Gea.

In the stands, coach Jose Mourinho seemed quite pleased with the coordination of his two favorite students. Luke Shaw is showing a spectacular revival with convincing performances in the first 3 rounds of the Premier League.

Just 2 minutes later, Spain equalized through Saul Niguez. The midfielder from Atletico Madrid finished from close range after Rodrigo's cross, leaving goalkeeper Pickford helpless.

In the 32nd minute, the score was raised to 2-1 for the away team. The scorer this time was Valencia FC striker Rodrigo Moreno.

From a free kick from the left wing by Thiago Alcantara, the 1991-born star ran intelligently before unleashing a tricky shot into the near corner, forcing goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to pick the ball out of the net for the second time in the first half.

Without needing top strikers like Diego Costa or Morata, Spain still organized quality attacks and the result was 2 goals in the first 45 minutes.

The second half of the match was exciting with continuous attacks from both teams.

While playing well, Luke Shaw suddenly got injured after a collision and had to leave the field on a stretcher at the beginning of the second half.

No more goals were scored in the remaining time. Spain left Wembley with their first three points in the Nations League.
