Hundreds of hectares of sugarcane in Anh Son were buried after the flood.
(Baonghean.vn) - The recent floods caused hundreds of hectares of raw sugarcane in Anh Son to be deeply submerged in water; many sugarcane areas in the coastal areas in some localities such as Dinh Son, Vinh Son, Linh Son were buried in trash and mud.

In recent days, the people of Dinh Son commune have been extremely worried when dozens of hectares of sugarcane in the Lam River alluvial plain were buried. The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Van in Hamlet 1, Dinh Son commune has 7 sao of sugarcane on the alluvial plain and is in its second year of cultivation. The sugarcane was growing well but in the recent flood, it was flooded and the entire area was buried.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Agricultural officer of Dinh Son commune said: This year, the whole commune has 92 hectares of sugarcane crop, the recent flood has flooded 58 hectares. Some sugarcane areas can be restored after the water recedes, but about 17 hectares are still lost due to being buried in mud, trash and washed away by floodwaters; mainly concentrated in hamlets 1 and 7 from Len Tuong waist of hamlet 1 to Bai Phu, from Cay Chanh to Len Quan. In some places, the buried soil is 70 - 80m deep into the agricultural land of the people.

After storm No. 4 and the impact of the hydroelectric dam's flood discharge, in Anh Son district, 2,020 hectares of alluvial land and copper land were flooded, of which 329.5 hectares of corn and other crops were flooded; 564 hectares of sugarcane were flooded. In particular, the flood discharge caused the water to rise quickly but fall slowly, after 5-7 days the water in the fields and on the land receded, causing flooding and damage to crops.

Furthermore, the flood discharge caused strong flow on Lam River, causing riverbank erosion, agricultural land erosion on Lam River bank; many areas were buried in garbage and mud, greatly affecting production and people's lives. Currently, farmers cannot overcome this area.
