4 reasons why the car oil warning light is on

(Baonghean.vn) - The car's oil warning light (Check Oil) is used to warn users about the engine's lubrication status, and needs to be handled immediately because leaving it on for a long time will seriously affect the engine's ability to operate... Below are the basic reasons why the oil warning light is on.

1. Low viscosity ink

One of the reasons why the oil light comes on is because the engine's lubricating oil level is low; so consider the condition of the vehicle before the light comes on.

For example, the light comes on after changing the engine oil - it may be due to insufficient oil for the engine. Therefore, it is necessary to check again with the dipstick, or some modern cars have the function of checking the oil level.

If the light comes on during operation - this is a sign that the vehicle is consuming too much oil and needs to be checked; because lubrication is extremely important for the engine.

2. Dirty lubricating oil

Another reason why the oil light comes on is because the oil inside the engine is dirty. Failure to perform regular maintenance to check and replace the lubricants when necessary will cause the oil and other fluids to deteriorate.

Then, the sludge formed from the degraded oil will cause sensors like the oil pressure to detect and light up the oil warning light.

3. Low oil pressure

This is the case where the oil in the tank is still sufficient in quantity, but not of sufficient quality for the following reasons:

- Wrong type of oil:This problem can occur in places where the temperature between the hot and cold seasons has a big difference. When the outdoor temperature is high, use a high viscosity index, when the temperature is low, use a low viscosity index. That means in the summer, the car uses high viscosity oil (10W - 30), but in the cold season, it must be changed to 5W-30 to be suitable. Otherwise, the engine will lack oil, the engine will make noise, the bearings will wear out and the crankshaft will be stripped is not far-fetched.

- Damaged oil pan:The oil pan is the oil container under the engine block, where the oil gathers to rest after the vehicle is turned off. Either the pump is malfunctioning and is not strong enough to suck up the oil; or the filter is clogged with mud, residue or trash, causing the oil to not circulate (The oil in the pan is unfiltered, before being sucked up from the oil pan, it must go through the Screen - filter membrane and then be passed through the oil filter before entering the engine).

If the low oil pressure is due to the oil pan, you must drain the oil, remove the pan, check the pan or the pump and replace if necessary.

4. Damaged pressure sensor

Another reason for the oil warning light to come on on the dashboard is a faulty sensor. Normally, the oil pressure sensor is mounted on the side of the engine and is often exposed to a lot of dirt in the oil or high temperatures, so it can be damaged.

However, sometimes the warning light circuit on the dashboard has problems.
