(Baonghean.vn) - After many days of efforts to overcome the consequences of floods and move furniture to a new location, on the morning of September 17, teachers and students of Con Cuong Secondary School for Ethnic Minority Boarding Students were able to enjoy the joy of the opening day of the new school year.

The recent floods caused severe damage in Con Cuong district. At Con Cuong Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities, the floods submerged the entire school; many equipment, teaching aids, and students' books were buried and swept away by mud.

On September 5, all schools in Con Cuong district held their opening ceremonies as planned; only Con Cuong Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities had to postpone the opening ceremony because at this time, 300 students and all teachers of the school had to concentrate on moving their belongings to the new location. However, the amount of tables, chairs, and equipment was too large, so in order to organize the opening ceremony, the school had to postpone it by 2 weeks compared to the general opening ceremony of the whole country.

Teacher Nguyen Dinh Nhung - Principal of the school said: "All the tables, chairs, books, and daily necessities such as blankets, bowls, chopsticks, clothes, etc. of the boarding students and 36 teachers were severely damaged and could not be moved in time or could not be used, so the local government mobilized the army, youth union, people and teachers in the school to overcome the consequences. However, the opening ceremony was still 2 weeks later than the rest of the country. Although the opening ceremony was later, after stabilization, the school will arrange make-up classes so that the students can keep up with the program."

In the 2017-2018 school year, despite many difficulties in terms of facilities, the school has achieved many remarkable achievements. The percentage of good and excellent students reached 89%, and the provincial excellent students had 13 prizes (including 3 first prizes and 5 second prizes).

In the new school year, although the school has been arranged a new location to ensure teaching and learning, the school's students have to study and live in 3 places, which creates many difficulties for teachers and students. Accordingly, Con Cuong Vocational College has lent 12 classrooms for teaching; and 300 ethnic boarding students will be temporarily arranged to stay at the Continuing Education Center and the Political Training Center of Con Cuong district.

Con Cuong Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities is a boarding school for 100% of students who are children of ethnic minorities in remote areas of the district. In the 2018-2019 school year, the school had 300 students; of which 75 were 6th graders entering their first year of secondary school.
