After listening to Deputy Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation Tran Van Mao inform voters about the expected content and program of the 6th session of the 14th National Assembly, 14 voters in Ben Thuy ward took turns giving many opinions and recommendations to the delegates.

Believing that the recent floods caused heavy damage in the highland districts partly due to the hydroelectric dam releasing floodwaters, voter Hoang Van Dai (resident of Block 4, Ben Thuy) said it was necessary to clarify responsibilities in this matter.

“I understand that people’s houses and crops were washed away by the hydropower plant’s discharge. So if the hydropower plant claims that they discharged water according to the correct procedure, and the authorities also claim that the hydropower plant’s planning is correct, then who will have to compensate for the damage caused to the people by releasing water?” - Mr. Dai said.

This voter also expressed concern that in the coming time, a series of hydropower plants in the province will come into operation. "Currently, there are still many hydropower projects being implemented. Recently, only a few hydropower plants discharged at the same time and caused such damage. If later all hydropower plants in the area discharge at the same time, what will happen to Vinh City?" - Mr. Dai said.

Meanwhile, voter Dau Van Nhu (resident of Block 15, Ben Thuy) suggested that it is necessary to expand the scope of recovering corrupt assets. “The goal of fighting corruption is to recover assets and return them to the people. If that goal is not achieved, it will not be successful. I suggest that it is necessary to expand the scope of inheritance after a corruption case is exposed, to avoid loss of assets,” said Mr. Nhu.

In addition, at the meeting, many voters also expressed concerns about recent prominent issues such as technology education books; inadequacies in policies and regimes for war invalids; planning of transport infrastructure; attracting investment, etc.

Speaking after listening to all opinions, Mr. Ho Duc Phoc asked to accept the voters' suggestions. "After this meeting, we will forward the voters' opinions and suggestions to the competent authorities for handling," said Mr. Phoc.

Regarding the issue of anti-corruption, the State Auditor General said that recently, under the direction and leadership of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, anti-corruption work has been done very strongly, with no forbidden areas. “Even Politburo members have been dealt with. However, according to assessments, this work is currently ‘hot above but cold below’. At the central level, ministries and branches are working very hard, but localities and bases have not paid much attention,” said Mr. Phoc, adding that, especially at the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and economic groups, anti-corruption work is currently being done very strongly….

In addition, according to Mr. Ho Duc Phoc, recently, in many major corruption cases such as Phan Sao Nam's gambling ring, Vu Nhom case... the authorities have recovered a huge amount of assets, many cases up to thousands of billions of dong.

Sharing about the issue of attracting investment, Mr. Ho Duc Phoc said that Nghe An province's investment attraction is inferior to neighboring provinces. "We are lagging behind Ha Tinh and Thanh Hoa if we look at the indicators. Ha Tinh's population and area are not even half of Nghe An's, but currently the budget revenue is more than 15,000 billion VND. Nghe An still has less than 13,000 billion VND, while spending more than 24,000 billion VND each year. We need to increase investment attraction..." - Mr. Phoc said.

Regarding the damage caused by the hydropower plant's flood discharge, Mr. Ho Duc Phoc said that the leaders of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee have directed to clarify the cause as well as the responsibilities of the relevant parties.
