Russia is believed to hold the "key" to preventing Iran and Israel from clashing in Syria.

The "war of words" between Israel and Iran escalated, raising the risk of war as Tel Aviv vowed to continue attacks against the Islamic Republic's presence in Syria. Meanwhile, Iran warned that Israel would be destroyed and its government would be forced to "flee to the sea".

In this situation, Russia has made efforts to open communication channels between Israel and Iran to reduce tensions, the London-based Arabic newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat quoted a senior Russian source as saying.

"Moscow's mediation efforts, which are said to have been made after the country delivered the S-300 missile system to Syria, are described as aimed at 'de-escalating tensions and preventing conflict' between Tehran and Tel Aviv due to their conflicting interests in Syria," the source said.

Currently, Russian, Iranian and Israeli officials have not made any official comments on the authenticity of the above information.
