On October 9, Con Cuong district organized a scientific workshop to discuss solutions for developing the orange value chain in the 2015 - 2020 period.
Currently, the district has more than 370 hectares of oranges, the area of oranges in the business period is more than 120 hectares, compared to 2015, the area of orange trees in the area has increased by 188.41 hectares; the yield reached 113 tons/ha. The orange area is mainly grown in Yen Khe, Bong Khe, Chi Khe communes. According to the plan, by 2020 the whole district will have 400 hectares.
However, orange production in Con Cuong district still faces many difficulties such as: Some long-term orange growing areas have degenerated, the production and supply of seedlings is widespread, and quality cannot be controlled.
The spontaneous cultivation of oranges is widespread in many different regions, leading to low productivity, quality, and efficiency, causing losses to growers; the use of pesticides by people does not follow standards, etc.
Post-harvest orange products do not meet the strict requirements on food hygiene and safety for developed countries, limiting their export to the market; Preservation technology is still low. In addition, there has not been a chain link in orange production, and there has not been much promotion and trade promotion, affecting the sustainable development of orange trees.
Up to now, the product has not been granted a trademark. Some gardeners have applied science and technology to grow oranges according to VietGAP process, however, compared to the whole district's area, it is still limited.

At the workshop, delegates proposed solutions to develop the orange value chain such as: Strengthening state management of orange zoning management, minimizing the spontaneous and widespread planting of oranges by farmers.
At the same time, manage inputs such as seeds, fertilizers and handle output and product consumption issues well. Strengthen training and in-depth training on science and technology for orange growers. Encourage and have policies to support people in applying scientific and technological advances in planting, caring for, harvesting, preserving and processing oranges to increase economic value; at the same time, promote propaganda to promote products...
