52 months in prison for a person addicted to theft

On the morning of October 10, Tan Ky District People's Court coordinated with Tan Ky District People's Procuracy to open a trial to review the criminal case against Vo Van Nghia, residing in Thai Son hamlet, Nghia Thai commune (Tan Ky) for robbery and theft.
At the trial, the prosecutor coordinated with the panel of judges to clarify the defendant's criminal behavior, aggravating and mitigating circumstances, and evaluate the compliance with the law during the proceedings. Based on the results of the investigation at the trial, the prosecutor gave his opinion on the indictment.

Accordingly, between July 27 and August 7, 2018, Nghia committed 3 consecutive crimes in Tan Ky town.
At 8:00 a.m. on August 7, Nghia rode his motorbike from his house to town. When he arrived at the area near the grocery store in block 8, Nghia discovered a yellow mobile phone in the front compartment of Ms. Chu Thi H.'s Yamaha Novo motorbike, which was parked on the side of the road. Nghia put on a mask, stopped the motorbike, stole the phone, and then drove towards Nghia Hoan commune.
Ms. H discovered Nghia had stolen her phone, so she called on the people to chase and catch him, and also reported to the Tan Ky District Police to arrest him. At 10:15 a.m., the Tan Ky District Police task force arrested the suspect, along with all the evidence of the case.
At the investigation agency, Nghia confessed to 1 more robbery and 1 previous theft and the evidence was 2 phones worth 5.8 million VND. In the valuation conclusion, the total value of the 3 phones that Nghia stole and robbed was 11.4 million VND.
It is known that after stealing two phones on July 27 and August 2, Nghia was preparing to get married. Exactly three days after the wedding, he committed a third theft.
Previously, in 2011, Nghia was sentenced by the Tan Ky District People's Court to 9 months in prison with a suspended sentence for theft of property. At the end of the trial, the panel sentenced Vo Van Nghia to 52 months in prison.
After the end of the trial, the People's Procuracy of Tan Ky district held a meeting to evaluate the results of the trial and draw lessons for the Prosecutors in practicing the right to prosecute and supervise the trial at the trial, and invited the Trial Council to attend.
