After arriving in Japan and South Korea, the Tran Hung Dao frigate will visit China. In addition to foreign exchange activities, the trip will also help evaluate the Vietnam Navy's joint command capacity, weapons and technical equipment proficiency.

015 Tran Hung Dao and 016 Quang Trung are two Project 11661E "Gepard" missile frigates that were put into service with Brigade 162, Vietnam People's Navy since February 2018. The ships are equipped with many modern weapons, produced by Russia under a contract signed with the Vietnam Navy, to build a regular naval force and improve the capacity to protect the country's sea and islands.

Vietnam's Gepard-class frigates apply many stealth technologies, combining angular hulls and radar-absorbing paint to minimize radar reflection areas from enemy reconnaissance systems. The ship is also equipped with modern jamming and electronic warfare systems.
