The audience's reaction was completely different from what Trong Lan imagined when he took on the villain role of Mr. Can's son in "Quynh Doll".

- What similarities do you find between yourself and the character Phong - "Prince Thien Thai" in "Quynh Doll"?

- Phong and I are only similar in age and desire to break out to express ourselves, but in terms of personality, we are completely different. A friend from primary school once asked me: "I've been friends with you for more than 20 years, why have I never seen you have any personality or demeanor like in the movies?". Everyone at home also said that I "have a gentle face but always play bad roles". I may have the body and face to play the role of a young master, but my personality is not similar at all.

I sometimes feel disgusted with my character. There are times when I dare not watch.Quynh dollbecause I feel like I'm too ugly in the movie and don't want to get close to that ugliness. When talking to friends, I still occasionally exclaim: "Why is this guy so unruly?"

In the movie "Quynh Doll", Trong Lan (right) plays Phong - son of old man Can (Meritorious Artist Nguyen Hai).

- Besides the horror, how do you sympathize with your character?

- Phong is a sick, crazy character never seen on television. I sympathize with Phong's loneliness because in real life, my parents also live far apart. My mother moved to Saigon a long time ago. Many times I miss my mother very much but don't know how to express my feelings. I'm not the type of person who can say "Mom, I love you so much!".

When reading the script, I understood that Phong's personality was not only arrogant and reckless. He was a bit pitiful, lonely and always wanted to prove his huge ego. However, the more he showed off, the more weaknesses he revealed. In the episodes that were shown, Phong had a clear change through each stage. Before he escaped for drug trafficking, Phong was impulsive, arrogant, and reckless, but when he returned, he became more scheming, calculating, and less hyperactive.

- Taking on a villain role, how do you think the audience will receive you before the movie airs?

-I was mentally prepared for the fact that I would be hated. I even did some ideological work for my parents so that they would not be shocked by the image of their son and the negative reactions that the audience might have towards me when I was in the movie.Quynh dollon air. But things didn't go as one-sided as I thought. The audience's attitude towards Phong changed so quickly that on social media, people said that fans ofQuynh dollturn around as fast as an ex-lover (laughs).

If in the first episodes, Phong was hated for his arrogance and perversion, then from episode 12, he was loved for his good treatment of Quynh (Phuong Oanh). Many viewers even wished for Quynh to come to Phong. In episode 12, Phong used all his strength to protect the girl he loved. Perhaps that touched the sisters' emotions so everyone was amused.

- How do fans express their love for you?

- I have a huge fan base now. Honestly, I'm very surprised to have so many fans. Recently, I was almost "in crisis" because of messages from the audience and friends about my role. Many female friends constantly texted me asking questions and "flirting" with me. Yesterday, I received a message from a female fan with the content: "What kind of girl will keep you and make you change?" or "Please let me go back to Thien Thai, I want to be the daughter-in-law of Can's father"... There are many cute female friends who don't dare to text me but share their admiration on their personal pages.

Trong Lan was born in 1993 and studied at Hanoi College of Art.

- What does your girlfriend think when you get "flirted" with by so many female fans?

- Currently, I am a happy single man (laughs).

- Which audience reaction did you find most interesting?

- Thanks to this film, many people recognized me and asked to take pictures with me when I went out. There was a funny memory when I went to have breakfast at the beginning of the alley, I found it very strange that my bowl of noodles that day was full, with more elephant ear and meat than usual. I asked the saleswoman why she suddenly gave me so much, she just smiled and said "eat it, child". It turned out that it was because she saw me acting.Quynh dollso I gave more. Every time the neighbors saw me, they smiled brightly. When I went out, the girls often grabbed my hand and said: "That's you, my child. Why are you so evil in the movies but so kind in real life?" I feel very happy because so many people know and love me.

- What did your family say about this role?

- My grandmother is almost 90 years old this year. Ever since I started studying acting, she always said she didn't know if she would live to see me on TV. I was very happy to have made her wish come true. However, after watching the movie, she got angry and called my father and said, "I don't like you letting Lan play such bad roles. When you act in a movie, you have to play a good person." After a while, she accepted that it was just a movie.

The happiest thing for me is that I made my parents proud of me. My parents were not on good terms. My mother moved to Saigon with my two sisters 5 years ago. However, thanks to my participation in this film, they started talking to each other again. Before the film started, my father often called my mother to ask if she had watched the film. After the film ended, they also called each other to discuss the content and my acting ability. That made me feel that they were no longer distant. Every time I came home, I saw my father happier. I hope that after this film, everything will return to normal as if nothing had happened.

Behind the scenes of the scene that made Trong Lan and Phuong Oanh's limbs numb while filming "Quynh Doll".

- What did you think when taking on a tough role like Phong?

- After receiving the script, I just tried to do my best and didn't think that this role would turn my career into a new page. I couldn't imagine that the film would be such a big hit. With the success of Phong's role, I knew I couldn't easily and arbitrarily choose my next roles.

- How did you find the material for this role?

- In the script, Phong is described as a drug addict who often uses stimulants. In reality, such people are often a bit crazy and crazy. I used to work at a bar and met a lot of people, so I had the opportunity to observe and learn to accumulate for my acting career. Among my friends, there are also people who work in this profession, so I understand them very well.

When playing Phong, I intentionally added a few details to make the character more lovable, for example, when he couldn't get money, he ran out to kiss his dad.

- Many people find it a bit unreasonable that Phong has deep feelings for Quynh after only a few meetings. What do you think about that?

- Phong is an unusual person, so his way of loving is also unusual. He fell in love with Quynh from the first time they met and loved her like a moth to a flame, willing to do anything to protect that woman. However, when he is betrayed, he will change 180 degrees.

- During the time working together, what about Phuong Oanh left you with the biggest impression?

- Ms. Oanh is not only beautiful but also very professional. When filming the scene where Quynh and Phong were tortured by Vu's henchmen in the warehouse, she and I had to tie our hands up in the air for 2 hours. After finishing the scene, we were both exhausted. My hands were numb and Ms. Oanh could not stand up. However, she did not complain at all. At that time, I secretly admired her for her endurance and the great sacrifices she made for the role.

During the time working with Phuong Oanh, I had a lot of feelings for her. It was not a romantic feeling, but it made me more and more absorbed in acting, and I didn’t feel awkward when we looked into each other’s eyes. Thanks to that, I could easily complete the scenes with Phuong Oanh.

Trong Lan was born in 1993 and studied at Hanoi College of Arts. After graduating, he worked at Hanoi Drama Theater. In the television industry, Trong Lan played a small role inThe JudgeandA lifetime of grudgestbefore joiningQuynh doll.

In the film directed by Mai Hong Phong, Trong Lan plays Phong - the only son of old Can. Therefore, Phong was given the nickname "Thien Thai prince". Spoiled by his father since childhood, Phong became depraved when he got involved in drugs and women early. While old Can was very cautious, trying to keep peace with Vu's faction (Minh Tiep), Phong was very arrogant. "Thien Thai prince" tried every way to challenge Vu, thereby fighting for his territory. Although he was fierce with those around him, Phong was very attentive to Quynh (Phuong Oanh). This character played an important role in pushing the drama ofQuynh dollrose to prominence when it sparked factional strife and pushed Canh (Doan Quoc Dam) to his death.
