Connecting supply and demand for safe food

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of October 19, Nghe An Department of Health coordinated with relevant sectors to organize the Conference on connecting supply and demand for food safety in Nghe An province in 2018.

Attending the conference were representatives of leaders of departments, branches, sectors; medical units, health, education, and economic departments of districts and cities in the province; representatives of food production, processing, and business establishments and catering services in the area.

During the past 9 months, the authorities have discovered and handled more than 5,000 establishments violating food safety regulations, imposing fines of more than 2.5 billion VND; in addition, they have confiscated and destroyed a large quantity of food products of unknown origin, expired, smuggled, spoiled food... worth billions of VND.

This conference is held to introduce safe food from manufacturers, traders, processors to restaurants, hotels, and collective kitchens in the area. This is an opportunity for production and trading establishments of agricultural products and safe food with consumption establishments to connect supply and demand to form consumption supply chains to meet people's needs.

At the conference, the Nghe An Food Safety and Hygiene Department disseminated and implemented regulations on administrative sanctions for food safety violations; the assignment, decentralization and coordination in state management of food safety in Nghe An province. The leaders of the Department of Health expressed their hope that businesses would uphold their sense of responsibility in implementing the provisions of the law on food safety.

Also at the conference, local food businesses exchanged and promoted their safe food products and initially signed contracts to supply food to a number of units with collective kitchens and catering services in the area.

In the first 9 months of 2018, Nghe An province recorded 6 cases of food poisoning that affected 57 people. Of these, 2 were serious poisoning cases that killed 4 people due to drinking wine soaked with wild roots harvested by themselves, 1 case due to eating the fruit of the parasol tree, and 3 cases due to microorganisms.
