On the occasion of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong being elected by the 14th National Assembly to the position of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the leaders of the People's Republic of China, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Republic of Cuba, and the Russian Federation sent congratulatory messages.

In the telegram, General Secretary and President Xi Jinping emphasized that China and Vietnam are friendly neighbors and important partners, with a long-standing tradition of friendship; over the past time, the relationship between the two countries has continued to develop well, and substantive cooperation in various fields has continuously deepened, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries. General Secretary and President Xi Jinping affirmed that he attaches great importance to developing China-Vietnam relations, and is ready to work with General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong to promote the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries to continuously develop to new heights.
* General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Bounnhang Vorachit sent a congratulatory message to General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong.
