ASEAN adopts anti-terrorism action plan

The closing statement of the 12th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) held in Myanmar's capital Nay Pyi Taw said that on November 1, AMMTC adopted an action plan to combat terrorism.

The conference also adopted the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Action Plan (2018-2025) to prevent and eliminate the rise of terrorism and extremism.

In this regard, ASEAN has decided to discuss additional proposals at the 19th Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC), which will be held in Myanmar in 2019. The 9th AMMTC+3 (ASEAN with China, Japan and South Korea) meeting on November 1 also agreed that ASEAN will continue to cooperate with the three dialogue partners to eliminate transnational crimes, including terrorism, cybercrime and human trafficking.

In addition, the Conference approved the submission of the Republic of Korea's proposal on enhancing cyber capacity in 2019 to the ASEAN Secretariat for comments from member countries.

The 13th AMMTC and the 10th AMMTC+3 will be held in Thailand in 2019.
